This Persistent Life: Is Fury PvP Heaven?

Three reasons why Fury may very well be the most exciting thing in the world of PvP MMOs

Depending on who you ask, the ultimate PvP game either:

A) came out years ago

B) will come out in the next couple of years

C) is languishing in a decidedly uncertain state as vaporware Pre-Trammel

Ultima Online, Dark Age of Camelot, Warhammer: Age of Reckoning, and Darkfall are all names that come up in PvP discussions in the forums. I'm for one am surpurised that I don't see Fury's name come up more. In my mind, it has all the makings of a brilliant PvP-centric MMO, and I've get three damn good reasons why, but we'll get to those in just a minute.

I suspect the big reason why Fury is overlooked right now by gamers has a lot to do with the fact that it has a non-traditional approach. All of the aforementioned games are designed around heavy persistent-world elements. Like Guild Wars (a game that I don't see coming up very frequently either), Fury doesn't really have any. Games like these tend to downplay the necessity to acquire hard-to-find equipment, which many hardcore MMO players rely on to boost their PvP prowess. When games like Fury come around that enable the best, most coordinated players to triumph over the best-equipped, well... it seems that they attract something of a different audience.

Now, let's get to the good stuff. Here are three reasons why Fury will change they way you look at PvP forever.

1.) No PvE

Fury's key selling point, when it comes to attracting PvP diehards, is the fact that character advancement isn't tied to PvE content in any way. Fury has no PvE elements to speak of. You earn gold, loot, and the game's equivalent to experience from PvP combat. It works like this: at the end of every match, participants will be rewarded by an assortment of loot that "dropped" during the battle, as well as a fixed amount of gold. Each participant will get to "roll" on a specific number of items, depending on their subscription status, and take an equal share of the gold. Gold is used to purchase abilities, equipment, and consumable power ups, as well as to repair gear that wears down during each battle. Another resource called "Essence" is used to unlock new abilities, or upgrade existing ones, and can be used in lieu of gold.
