Fun Fact: Bro Buzz has attended every single E3 ever!
Name: Wes Nihei (Bro Buzz)
Number of previous E3's you've attended: All of them
Year your first E3 took place: 1995
What was your overall impression of this year's E3?
Mellow, subdued but when you think it through there was a lot of information about upcoming games and game plans to be had there.
How did it compare to E3's of past years? Was it better, worse or just as good?
All of the above? It was better because it didn't feel overcrowded and individual info sessions with companies or games could be conducted in an informative and interactive manner. But it was worse because overall you saw fewer games and had less hands on time with the games. Also, the spontaneity and the excitement of witnessing a hot game was lacking. It was difficult to really track down and see "buzzworthy" games that other editors saw. And it was just as good because, for better or for worse, it remains the focal games media event for U.S. press of the year.
What was the most memorable moment of this year's E3?
Moment 1: The brief snippet of Resident Evil 5 video at the Microsoft Press briefing was unexpected, and even more unexpected was my reaction: it creeped me out.
Moment 2: Chewbacca "announces" the Star Wars PSP at the Sony Press briefing.
Moment 3: When I first arrived at the Barker Hanger and thought "where the hell am I?"
Who had the best E3: Microsoft, Nintendo or Sony?
Sony. I liked Microsoft's games a lot, but Sony had a lot of 'splaining to do and they went for it. PS3 games looked very good overall with cool surprises like Unreal Tournament III and Echochrome. The new PSP is very slick (I actually want to buy one now), and PSP games are getting better. Nintendo is on a roll and they continue to forge ahead with their plans to build a new games marketplace, but Sony had more to say this year.
Which game left the biggest impression on you?
Call of Duty 4. What felt like a radical divorce from WWII combat roots now feels like a well-planned, imaginatively-crafted, and exciting evolutionary step forward.
Which game was the most disappointing?
Assassin's Creed. At this show, the game did not demonstrate anything fresh beyond what's been revealed so far and did not generate much excitement.
Did you see any games with the potential to be a sleeper hit? Why did it catch your eye?
Left 4 Dead. Hordes of the "infected" running at you always catches your eye.
Everyone loves zombies: Left 4 Dead left a big impression on Bro Buzz.
