We're not done with the twiikage! Here's a couple more hacks, tricks, and accessories that will help you get the most out of your Wii.
They call me Boba Fatt...
MAKE YOUR OWN MII FAMOUS
Looking for a new headshot for your MySpace profile? Or an avatar on your favorite forums? Go loud and proud with your own Mii. You don't even have to figure out a way to take screens--you can re-create your Mii using the Flash online Mii creator at createmii.com. Or go crazy and combine the online Mii creator with Photoshop to do things even the Wii couldn't dream.
GO HI-DEF
Although the Wii doesn't support high-definition resolutions, you can still grab a set of component cables to bring the image up to 480p from the standard 480i. May not sound like much, but the result is significant and will really show on higher-end televisions. You can purchase any number of third party component cables, but the official Nintendo set is only available online at store.nintendo.com. It's not as easy as just plugging in cables, however--you'll have to go into the Wii Settings menu, then into the "Screen" submenu and then choose TV resolution and switch to HDTV (480p). While you're in this menu, you may also want to choose "Widescreen" if you're playing on a 16x9 television.
TRICK OUT WII SPORTS
Sure, sure, sure--when you're all alone, the Wii killer app is, without question, The Legend of Zelda. But the secret guilty pleasure of this console is definitely Wii Sports, which makes ingenious use of the Wii's great interface. You probably think you've seen all there is to see in Wii Sports, but you may not have come across a couple secret tricks. Don't tell anyone!
-In Wii Bowling, you can choose the color of your ball by pressing the D-pad and pressing the A button while the warning screen displays. Hold left to select a red ball, right to select gold, up for blue and down to make your ball green.
-Looking to mimic the computer's advanced sidearm pitch in Wii Baseball? Hit the 2 Button to switch to sidearm mode, and hit 1 to switch back.
-The 2 button also unlocks a sneaky treat in Wii Tennisyou can play regular matches on the blue practice court by holding it down during the warning screen.
GO PERIPHERAL
The ingenious Wii control structure allows for as many add-ons, hook-ups and slide-ins as you can possibly imagine, and as the Wii's surprising popularity clues in with peripheral makers, there are sure to be many more available.
Dignity not included.
For now, check out Joytech's cool gear at Joytech.net. You've probably seen the racing grip available from several companies and even included in games like GT Pro Series, but Joytech also has tennis racket and golf club grips for your Wii Remote that will enhance the sensation of reality in your Wii Sports gaming.
With Wii Play on the way, there will be even more opportunities for customizing your gaming, and your imagination will be the limit. Some upstarts on YouTube taped their remote to a billiard cue for Wii Pool, others have even rigged the Wii remotes via Bluetooth to control computers and their home's security system. How will you enhance your gaming? It's all in the palm of your hands.
