Wii Customization Guide

Now that you've got a Wii, you're going to want to treat it right. To make the most of your next-next generation gaming, check out these optimizations for Nintendo's little engine that does.

THE WIIVOLUTION IS IN YOUR HANDS!

Even the self-proclaimed simplest of today's gaming machines offers plenty of opportunities for tweaks and customizations to take full advantage of the system's incredibly unique capabilities. The sky is the limit when it comes to Wii customization, and the revolution--or Wiivolution--has only just begun.

Retro fabulous.

BLING OUT YOUR WIIMOTES

Sure, blistering white has been all the rage since Apple became hip again, but wouldn't it be nice to distinguish your Wii Remotes? You can find custom decals at many game stores, or online sites like designerskins.com and decalgirl.com. Or, better yet, channel your inner artist and create your own designs. Pick up some glossy sticker paper from an office supply store and go crazy with Photoshop, or just take your digital derring-do to a printing house and have them print it out all sticky-like for you.

Oldschool gamers are usually partial toward the retro look. The skin above is available at decalgirl.com

AND THEN BLING OUT YOURSELF

There are golfing gloves, batting gloves and driving gloves--so now that the Wii has brought video games to the next evolution of interactivity, why not invest in a pair of gaming gloves? Not only will it improve your grip and ensure that you don't throw your Wiimote to a shattering death, but the feeling of donning your armor to prepare for battle will tickle the inner hardcore gamer in your belly. Gorgeous leather batting gloves can be found at your local sporting goods store, or check out Nike's offerings at Nike.com. If your glove fits properly, you'll have no problem finding the buttons by touch, but there are also fingerless gloves, like weightlifting gloves, that will keep your feelers free.

FREAK OUT YOUR FRIENDS

Practical usage aside, did you know you can use the Wii remote with candles instead of the sensor bar? Check out the demonstration videos on YouTube, and prepare to have a whole new understanding of exactly how the Wii Remote works. You can also find videos to substitute standard household infrared remotes for the sensor bar. It might be worth experimenting to see what craziness you can fool the Wii remote into performing. Just be careful when playing with fire... it's really, really hot.

ROLL WITH THE STARS

Sure, it's fun to beat up a virtual avatar of your little sister, but wouldn't it be nice to teach Angelina Jolie a lesson for further sullying the Tomb Raider franchise? I captured the essence of Jolie by accentuating her full lips, thick nose, narrow eyes and large forehead, while making sure to reproduce her trademark mole. That's it, baby.Scowl at me. I like it when you scowl.

Call her Ms. Jolii.

Learn how to capture the caricatures of famous people (check out that thick nose, the thin, sparkling eyes and those puffy lips) and then wow and impress your friends. For guides to making some famous folks, check out famousmii.com.
